Infertility comments often heard from my clients and friends " that my husband and I have been trying to conceive for years and the doctors say there is nothing the matter."  In Chinese Medicine we believe conception originates in the kidneys. The kidneys store our essence ( genes from our parents), govern birth and reproduction and control the vessels particularly the conception vessels which is the ruler off the fetus.

There are several reasons why infertility occurs. Anemia, leading to fatigue and hormonal imbalance, cold kidneys which lead to frequent urination, back and or knee pain as well as menstrual dysfunction, hot blood resulting in excess bleeding possibly with clots and a warmer body temperature overall. These are just a few mainly seen in woman. Men however will often have weak kidney from an excessive lifestyle and or poor nutrition. Generally, men have a problem with a low sperm count or a poor mobility.

Infertility tests in western medicine use the blood test and hormonal checks. The Chinese Medicine way is to rely on external clues such as pulse and tongue. When you see a Chinese Medicine practitioner a detailed case history is taken and any helpful western information is welcomed. We look at your complexion, eyes and take a pulse and tongue diagnosis. The pulse has 6 pulses on each side and indicates a variety of imbalances and weaknesses as well as the general health of the body. The tongue will indicate hot or cold or damp problems or a blood weakness.

Here are the areas on the tongue that the practitioner looks at. They also look at color, coating just to name a few. Through acupuncture, herbal medicine, food cures, meditation and relaxation techniques the kidneys, blood, energy and general health are restored and rejuvenated in both men and women.
